Is this a weight loss or body sculpting course?

Hell to the no. This course is about honoring and embracing your body at any size, while cultivating a healthy, shameless relationship with exercise.


I have no previous Pilates experience; will I still be able to perform the videos successfully?

YES! The first video is an introduction to the method and I’ll be covering the basic principles of Pilates with plenty of modifications, as well as guiding you on how to bring more awareness to your mind-body connection.


Will this help me end my emotional eating and struggles with chronic dieting? 

Transforming the dieting mindset around both fitness and food is covered briefly. However, this course does not address emotional eating or chronic dieting specifically, as the focus is movement and feminine embodiment. 


I’m on the opposite end of the spectrum with my relationship to exercise – I hate it and never move my body. Will this course benefit me?

WHAT IS PILATES?


Pilates is a physical fitness system that was developed in the early 20th century by Joseph Pilates. Joe created Pilates during the First World War with the intention to rehabilitate and aid injured soldiers in regaining their health by strengthening, stretching and stabilizing key muscles. Joe preferred fewer, more precise movements, requiring control and technique over increased repetition. Pilates uses correct alignment, centering, concentration, control, precision, breathing and flowing movement to establish a mentally and physically healthy body from the inside out. 


In The Liberated Movement Method, Amanda combines her training of STOTT PILATES® with Psychology, Feminine Embodiment and Intuitive Movement. STOTT PILATES® is a more contemporary form of Pilates that incorporates modern exercise science principles with Joe’s original method, and applies proven practices of biomechanics, rehabilitation and athletic performance enhancement. 


STOTT PILATES® exercises are designed to restore the natural curves of the spine and re-balance the muscles around the joints. This involves placing more emphasis on pelvic and scapular stabilization, and integration of all the parts of the body into one. Traditional strength training (such as weight-lifting) seeks to isolate and work individual muscles one at a time, which doesn’t automatically encourage stability where it counts: in the neck, shoulder joint, low back, hip joint and ankle joint. Pilates has a focus on isolating specific muscle groups while maintaining stability and constantly strengthening the core, which can basically be thought of as the ‘powerhouse’ of your body. Your core is the area between your shoulders and your pelvis (without your arms and legs) and encompasses all the muscles within this area. The essential core muscles are your Transverse Abdominus, Obliques, Rectus Abdominus, Pelvic Floor and Multifidus muscles (spinal muscles). 


This focus on strengthening the core and improving postural awareness helps to cultivate inner harmony, self-acceptance, confidence and the ability to meet challenges with grace and ease from deep within.
